Introduction

TD Bank is a prominent Canadian multinational bank that serves over 27.5 million bankers. Our innovation lab of 12 work with TD Bank often for new ideas and business needs. At the time, our team was working on 4 projects.

The feature I worked on enabled customers to have a customized banking experience online with an emphasis on consistency and ease of use. I am listed as co-inventor on the EasierWEB - Customized Interface patent application filed by the TD Bank Group (2022).

Learning and growth

Finding the best solution for my project involved learning new concepts and skills, collaborating with cross-functional teams, wireframing, and iterating on the product feature. Initially, I received guidance from my design mentor during meetings, but as I gained familiarity with the work, I led these discussions myself. I dedicated significant time to creating and refining wireframes, becoming a better storyteller during design critique sessions to gather feedback. After producing multiple iterations and an interactive prototype, I conducted user testing sessions, refining my work based on the insights gained.

Key takeaway

My internship at TD Bank was challenging, presenting me with a problem in an entirely unfamiliar space. However, these challenges became pivotal for my growth, pushing me out of my comfort zone and encouraging me to collaborate across functions. In the end, I learned to approach problems from a high-level perspective before delving into details, marking a significant personal and professional development.
